My name is Mia Evangeliste Szumetz, and I have been the owner and an instructor at Maestro Minds School of Music since 2006. I graduated from Greensburg Central Catholic in 2000 and then with my Music Education degree from Geneva College in Beaver Falls, PA in May of 2004. I began teaching privately at Maestro Minds that spring – I am PA certified K-12 in Music Education. My area of expertise is vocal coaching, piano lessons, and musical theater. My students have gone on to University majoring in piano, vocal, and violin performance as well as Music Education. Also, my audition preparation has helped my students excel in their school musical theater auditions. I spend my time away from Maestro Minds taking care of my daughter Amelia and son Emery, along with spending time with my husband Steve. I am very thankful for all the years of love and support from my students and their parents, and my goal is for Maestro Minds to be a place of love, acceptance, growth, and creativity, where each child can be themselves and grow to love music and theater as a life-long passion!
In 2013 local Norwin pediatrician Dr. Jodi Jackson and I formed a non-profit program All Kids Theater that became our sister program. We offer weekly musical theater and music lessons for students ages 4-18 who have special needs – they participate in full length musical theater productions in our theater as well as our recitals and special events. Dr. Jackson and I feel all children should be welcome to express themselves and we use music and theater as a catalyst to encourage social interaction and skills, public speaking experience, and comfort on the stage to further each student’s love of life! All students have a place at Maestro Minds, feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions!
